Since its beginning in 1974, Moonlight Jazz has been entertaining audiences in and around the stateline area for over 25 years.
Under the direction of Curt Peterson, the Moonlight Jazz Orchestra is a 19-piece big band, which features soloists and vocalists from within its talented ensemble. The band performs mostly for private functions including wedding receptions, company parties and fundraiser dinner/dances; but you can also catch Moonlight Jazz at public festivals such as On the Waterfront, Festa Italiana and the Sinnissippi Concert Series. "We have fun at what we're doing, and the audience really responds to that. People like the fact that they can let go and dance the night away, right along with us," commented Director Curt Peterson.
Based in Rockford, Moonlight Jazz also travels to Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison and other stateline cities. Not only does the band offer quality musical entertainment, but they add a dash of comic relief and audience interaction to their performance, which is a key to their popularity. Playing a variety of music is also a large part of their appeal; from Glen Miller's In the Mood to Love Shack by the B-52's, Moonlight Jazz is sure to please any age group. And with the revival of swing in today's dance clubs, Moonlight Jazz fits the bill with songs like Zoot Suit Riot and Jump, Jive and Wail now in their repertoire.
